Internal Justice System

We are committed to advancing an internal justice system that reflects the UN’s core value: fairness, transparency, respect for due process and the treatment of staff with dignity and protected rights. With a strong leadership and active engagement, we can build a justice system that truly serves both the organization and its personnel.

We support the institutionalization of judicial mediation and the strengthening of meaningful remedies, including “reinstatement” as endorsed by the General Assembly. We shall call for urgent reforms to pre-tribunal mechanisms such as the Management Advice and Evaluation Section (MAES), medical appeals, and job classification reviews to ensure independence, and transparency. We shall advocate for a comprehensive overhaul of investigative procedures and revision of ST/AI/2017/1 to align with international standards.

To reinforce justice and accountability, we shall seek legal standing for staff unions, the right to class actions, and restoration of the burden of proof on the administration. We shall urge expanded legal support through OSLA and external counsel, stronger informal conflict resolution mechanisms, and enhanced collaboration with international bodies such as the ILO.

We shall advocate for robust whistleblower protections and shall support staff through systemic monitoring, collective action, and regular reporting to ensure a justice system worthy of the UN’s mission
